Formed in 2004 from three technikons, TUT serves around 65,000 students across nine campuses in Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo. Here's exactly what you need to apply for 2027, and by when.

About the university
Tshwane University of Technology came into being on 1 January 2004 through the merger of Technikon Northern Gauteng, Technikon North-West and Technikon Pretoria. Today it is the largest residential higher education institution in South Africa, serving approximately 65,000 students across nine campuses in Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
TUT offers more than 300 career-focused, entrepreneurship-oriented study programmes through seven faculties, and is the only tertiary institution in South Africa with a stand-alone Faculty of Information and Communication Technology. It also runs an accredited business school, the Tshwane School for Business and Society.
Good to know
TUT's Admission Point Score (APS) is calculated from your six best subjects in your final school year — Life Orientation and any subject at achievement level 1 are excluded. Check your target programme's specific APS requirement before applying, as these vary widely across TUT's 300+ programmes.
Plan ahead
TUT applies one general closing date across most programmes, but selection-based and high-demand courses close much earlier — always check your specific programme before you wait.
The TUT online application system opens for the 2027 academic year, for first-time, returning and transfer applicants alike.
Nursing, Architecture and other selection-based, high-demand courses typically close on this earlier date.
Final date for most other undergraduate applications. Late applications are rarely accepted, and only if space remains.
The official TUT prospectus and website may list additional, programme-specific deadlines — always verify directly.
Online only
TUT applications are submitted online, with a non-refundable application fee required from all first-time applicants.
